Our Burundi Coffee comes from the Kayanza Region from a small family owned farm. The tasting profile of the Burundi Coffee is:
- Aroma: Spicy Fruit
- Acidity: Medium High
- Body: Medium
- Flavour: Sweet berry and herby citrus
The variety of this coffee is Red Bourbon which is one of the oldest varieties of Arabica coffee. It grows best at 1,100m- 2,000m above sea level with a red coloured cherry. Bourbon is valued for its complex acidity and wonderful balance. It has a sweet, caramel quality and nice and crisp acidity with a distinct flavour, depending on where it is planted.
The Coffee community in Burundi is tight knit. The farms are family owned and then, the coffee will be brought to the nearest coffee washing station to be washed. The region of Kayanza from which this coffee comes from, is in the north of the country, near the border with Rwanda. Kayanza is mostly known for being the water source of the Nile river. A unique water that is used to process coffee cherries at all the neighbouring wet mills.
We get this coffee through the IAC (inter-america Coffee) along with many other of our coffees. Find out more about them HERE.
If you love this coffee and want to try something similar then we would recommend our Noir blend or the Colombian coffee!
